CASE STUDY -micro credit in action at lendwithcare.org

CASE STUDY: Ibu Biyah, Indonesia
Mrs Biyah is a home shoe maker located in the town of Ciomas which is 50 kilometres from the capital Jakarta. She has been producing women’s shoes for the past 8 years. The first loan she received many years ago was for just £21 and was used to buy raw materials, such as rubber and plastic, to manufacture shoes. The current loan she is seeking will also be used to buy more raw materials. At present, she employs a total of 12 workers; she provides vital employment for people in her community. In one week, Mrs Biyah can produce between 400 and 500 pairs of shoes that she sells to shops in the local market for around £1.60 each. Her ambition is to one day open her own shoe store so that she can sell her products directly.
