8 years of RubyMoon on International Womens Day 2019!

RubyMoon GymToSwim® Collection is made from ocean plastics, with all profits supporting women entrepreneurs around the world: Ethical, Sustainable, Unique.

The world’s only not-for-profit Eco & Ethical activewear brand is celebrating 8 impactful years. RubyMoon launched on IWD March 8th, 2011, with the clear mission to inspire and empower active women through sustainable and high quality pieces. To commemorate in style we are releasing a new empowering surf & swim top: Yasmeen available from March 8th for pre-sale and promoting zero waste manufacturing.

What is particularly special about this piece is the story of the woman we named it after: the first entrepreneur we are supporting in the Palestinian Territories.
Yasmeen Zain All-Deen is 27 years old and runs a hairdressing salon with her business partner. Together they offer haircuts, styling, make-up, dyes and skin care and have built up a good reputation and are attracting clients from all around the city. Now is time to expand the business and so Yasmeen requested a loan to buy new equipment that will cost more than $5,000, as well as hair dyes, shampoos, and other supplies in bulk. When she buys in greater quantities she receives a discount from suppliers, so it makes sense to purchase in this way. Yasmeen also plans to employ another woman to help with the business growth, which is fantastic news #womenempoweringwomen! Well done, Yasmeen!

RubyMoon’s partnership with Lendwithcare.org allows 100% of the net profits to support women entrepreneurs with microloans in 14 developing countries. With every RubyMoon purchase, we empower women worldwide. Each garment is named after one woman supported. As a result of these investments, women are financially empowered, provided access to better healthcare, education, and nutrition for themselves and their families, lifting themselves out of poverty and precarious living conditions. Once the loans are repaid, these are reinvested into RubyMoon´s collection, enabling the sustainability & growth of the company, and consequently the number of loans that can be offered in the future. We are happy and grateful to announce that so far we have loaned to 260 women.

The Founder
Jo Godden, a swimwear designer for over 20 years, with expertise in body wear, worked for Victoria’s Secret and GapBody. Jo decided to no longer be part of the problem and became part of the solution by launching RubyMoon, a registered social enterprise specialising in conscious fitness wear, a not-for-profit with a sustainable and impactful business model. All fabrics and garments are designed &manufactured in transparent, safe and sound supply chain: in the UK & Spain, producing 42% less carbon emissions during their entire journey, from design to final product.

Good For The Planet: RubyMoon’s premium fabrics that are made from ECONYL® nylon yarn, derived from used fishing nets and other waste materials collected from the oceans responsible for the needless death of marine life, combined with Xtra Life ® Lycra, ensuring durability and high endurance performance. We invest in high quality fabrics providing garments that are chlorine and sun resistant for over 100 hours of exposure, lasting twice as long as similar products. RubyMoon also collects used swimwear for repurposing in an entirely circular economy model.

Good For The People: Each individual purchase of a RubyMoon garment contributes to implementing the larger vision of the brand, drawing women collectively towards a more self-sufficient and sustainable future, with fair and safe living standards with dignified working conditions.

Fashion Is A Feminist Issue: The fashion and textiles industry has the most potential to become a force for good. This is because millions of women are employed by the industry – mostly trapped in work not paying a living wage, they are marginalised and without a voice. In the west, 80% of consumer purchases are made by women- so it makes sense that women should help other women via ethical purchasing.
